Group Biography

Since its founding in 1995 within the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, the international brass ensemble WorldBrass has developed into one of the best-known ensembles of its kind in Germany. The musicians come from a wide variety of countries and continents including Belgium, Germany, England, France, Canada, Australia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Scotland and Ukraine.

In the course of his career, World Brass tours have taken him to Canada, Germany, Italy, Poland, Belgium and Luxembourg. The tour through Canada with concerts in Vancouver, Swift Current, Summerland and Regina as well as a master class in Victoria was extremely successful and is certainly one of the highlights in the history of WorldBrass. The ensemble has given concerts at the Moselle Festival Weeks, the Lower Saxony Music Days, the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, the German Brass Academy, the Sauerland Brass Autumn Festival and as an “ensemble in residence” at the Jever Brass Festival. The annual New Year’s Concert in the chamber music hall of the Berlin Philharmonic has long since won its place in the hearts of Berlin audiences.

The WorldBrass repertoire is as comprehensive as it is multifaceted. The ensemble’s desire to expand the brass literature with commissioned compositions and arrangements led to a large number of new works, so that Weltblech can now play entire programs with “own” works. Composers who have written for Weltblech include Theo Brandmüller, Macjei Blasewicz, Jeffrey Ching, Jan KoetsierRoland Wiltgen and Chris Hazell. Weltblech CDs have been released by amati and perc.pro. A recording of Theo Brandmüller’s “Dances concertantes mit Chorale” was published by BMG in an edition of the German Music Council.

A unique quality of WorldBrass is its understanding as an ensemble. There are no fixed positions within the group, nor is there the outstanding “star”. However, one principle runs through every program: WorldBrass wants to entertain its audience at a high level.
